This Week in TBTL: Straws, Pigs, and the TBTL-a-thon

May 15, 2015

A hand-crafted, shade-grown, beard-forward recap of the last week’s goings-on in the TBTL universe.  It will run every Friday morning, because I know none of you reads on the weekend.

(Last) FRIDAY: Happy birthday, Luke Burbank!  Here’s a straw and some filthy fountain water.  ALSO: Janky methods of tooth extraction, and a listener’s newly infamous neighbor.

MONDAY:  The TBTL-a-thon kicks off with stories of airline chicanery and Alec Baldwin’s pronunciation of trendy foodstuffs, plus a professional fundraising pitch from Phyllis Fletcher.  Andrew also mentions The Replacements’ “Waitress in the Sky,” which is one of my favorite songs of all time.

TUESDAY: Luke’s mom offers her advice on raising money, and Andrew ponders a pig purchase.  And since it’s Tuesday, The Song of Ice and Spoilers is back and ready to aggravate fans and non-fans alike.

(This is a pig with a phone.)

WEDNESDAY: TBTL Funcruncher/Funcrusher Steve Nelson checks in on Luke’s unexcused absence, and Adam Sandler is sort of reconsidered.  Except for his movies, because Jesus, come on.

THURSDAY: The fates of Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner and about 100 other Simpsons characters are pondered with the news of Harry Shearer leaving the show. Luke’s pondering is done from a hotel bathroom. Also, I’m in this episode, reading a list of Darrens.

If you haven’t donated to the TBTL-a-thon but would still like to, pertinent details can be found here.  Thanks for all your help from Luke, Andrew, and all of us at the Infinite Guest family of podcarts.

This is a picture of Steve Nelson with a lava lamp, holding a sign.  Using almost startlingly rudimentary Photoshop skills, I have changed the wording on the sign to reference TBTL, the imaginary radio program you’re reading about right now.

What’s your name and where do you live?
Heidi Fiedler. Massachusetts.

What’s the most interesting thing about you?
I still love to read picture books. One day I’ll have kids and no one will know the books are ALL MINE, not theirs.

What are you usually doing when you listen to TBTL?
Walking (and feeling guilty I’m not running instead).

What’s your secret shame food?
Pizza. Once a week isn’t shameful, right? How about three days in a row?

If you could make everyone in the world watch one movie, what would it be and why?
The latest Paddington Bear movie was surprisingly awesome. It’s silly and heartwarming all at once. And the art direction is spot on, for those who care about that kind of thing.

Who was your very first celebrity crush?
Jonathan Brandis. Don’t judge.

I am lost in his eyes.

What’s a special skill you have that you’re most proud of?
I once taught a Himalayan chai-shop owner to thumb wrestle.

What’s the worst nickname you’ve ever had?
Red Hot. It was more about me loving those little candies than any hotness I may have possessed at 12 years old. The sad part is I gave myself my own nickname.

If you were driving down the street and you saw Luke and Andrew on the sidewalk, what would you yell at them as you drove passed?
Aw! So cute!

What’s your favorite TBTL moment?
Listening to Luke and Andrew play hot-sauce pizza roulette.
