This Week in TBTL: Glendive, juice cleanses, and the Cascadia subduction

July 17, 2015

A hand-crafted, shade-grown, beard-forward recap of the last week’s goings-on in the TBTL universe.  It will run every Friday morning, because I know none of you reads on the weekend.

(Last) FRIDAY: Live from an abandoned Glendive, Montana, KOA, it’s Luke Burbank.  He praises the sheer handsomeness of the patrons of a Bismarck, North Dakota, Starbucks before the laptop battery dies and Andrew has to rig this contraption up:

And that’s why the show is titled “Montana Microcast.”

MONDAY:  Luke starts a juice cleanse, rails against people upset about fictional lawyers, and wants some parents to settle down about the dang Minions, already.  Also, Andrew kills beloved cartoonist Bill Watterson “accidentally.”

TUESDAY: Day 2 of Luke’s juice cleanse finds him sanding a boat in his parents’ driveway while Andrew leaves his apartment studio to record in Harold A. Henry Park like a dang weirdo.  The gentlemen discuss the Cascadia subduction that’ll lay waste to everything west of I-5 at some point in the future, and special guest Susan Burbank reviews her Christian cruise.  Some quotes from the show really stood out:

WEDNESDAY: A 1986 Merrill Markoe clip for Andrew’s favorite restaurant anchors one of the best-titled TBTLs ever.  Here’s where I note that Merrill Markoe created Stupid Pet Tricks and Viewer Mail for Late Night with David Letterman, and is therefore a national treasure.

THURSDAY: A long-awaited update on Andrew’s building manager situation!  (It’s towards the end of the show, though, and the clip of Alex Trebek reciting rap lyrics is definitely worth your click.)

song of the summer

Today is the last day to submit your vote for TBTL’s Song of the Summer, so go do that!

I thought long and hard about what song to submit for my nomination (apologies to runners-up The Avener, Sleaford Mods, and Donovan), and went with Serengeti’s “Dennehy.”  It has a spectacularly laid back vibe, will be especially popular with the show’s Chicago listeners, and mentions Dave Corzine.

That’s right.  A TBTL Newsletter.  Every Friday.  In your electronic mailbox.  Containing show recaps, a Ten of the Week, notes from Luke and Andrew, cutting room floor items from the past week, and news about upcoming TBTL events and ephemera.  More ephemera than you’ll know what to do with, frankly.
